301 Redirects

I transferred two sites this week to new domain names.  One of them was a PageRank 2.  It’s a mixed martial arts WordPress blog that I was doing mostly for fun but I decided to mesh with my mixed martial arts BANS site.  I put the blog in the root of the domain name and the BANS install in a subdirectory.

The other site I transferred was a PageRank 3.  I had to transfer that one because of a trademark infringement that was in the domain name.

I used 301 redirects in both cases to transfer traffic to the new domain names and it’s been working out very well.  Google has indexed both of the new domain names and the content that existed on the previous domain names.  The transfers have been pretty painless to be honest and I’m really happy with how the search engines are treating them.

The only weird thing to note is that in Googles results the titles appear the same as the old domain name but the URL showing at the bottom of the result is the new domain name.  Odd.
