One of the things I enjoy about Twitter is getting text message updates when certain people I “follow” post an update. Twitter has an option that lets you choose whether or not to receive device updates and you can also choose who you get them from. There are a lot of personalities I follow and check up on with Twitter but I only have a few of them set to send me text messages, mostly profiles that only post every once in a while and that have something profound or funny to say.
What is Twitter?
Twitter has been described in a few different ways but I think the most accurate is to call it a Micro-Blogging social network site. Basically it keeps you updated on what people are doing. In 2008 Twitter exploded in popularity. Some say Twitter feeds it’s users to much information while others argue that there is no better way online to stay in touch with what’s going on in the world right now.
Favorite Twitter Personalities
Here is a short list of a few of my favorite Twitter personalities that I follow. I call them personalities because not all of them are people in the strictest sense.
- @THE_REAL_SHAQ - This is supposedly the real Shaq but even if it’s not he’s just as goofy and always entertains. Also he doesn’t update to often which qualifies him for device updates.
- @passionnow - This is Tony Robbins’ Twitter profile. I’m a big fan of Tony Robbins and I still enjoy listening to Personal Power whenever I need it. Tony is still fairly new to Twitter and I hope he gets some momentum going with it. Device updates are on for Tony as he does not post often but when he does it is worth the read.
- @darthvader - Whoever is behind the mask of this Twitter personality is a freakin genius. Darth Vader is funny and device updates are on for him for sure. Could be my favorite Twitter page to visit.
- @zappos - Yup, Zappos the Shoe company. These guys are doing it right as far as building a relationship with their customers. If you follow Zappos you will find posts all day long and seldom will you see them pushing their brand on you. Zappos is a good example of a company that is very huge but doesn’t act like it.
- @Scobleizer - Robert Scoble has an opinion and you will hear it. You don’t have to agree with him but he always brings it and you have to appreciate that. I also enjoy checking up on him at his blog and at Friendfeed. He does a good job of bringing popular Social Networking sites together and making it all mesh, even with his blog. He seems to enjoy arguing and creating conversation with anyone.
- @cnn - CNN keeps me up to date in a way that other big news organizations need to catch on to. Getting a quick update on breaking news is as easy as a text message.
There are lots of great personalities online with Twitter and it’s very easy to get involved and “in the loop” with just about anything you are interested in. Try Twitter Search to find out what’s going on with your favorite topic right now.
